The interrogation of
former Odebrecht representative in Peru Jorge Barata —taking place in April— has been guaranteed, the Inca country's Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group Coordinator Rafael Vela said Friday.
Prosecutor Vela explained the team opted for waiting for the arrival of statement transcripts from Curitiba so they could be included in the proceedings. The transcripts had not arrived earlier from Brazil due to bureaucratic reasons.
"I have been told the information might have arrived yesterday.
That enables us to question Barata. Otherwise, it could have let any lawyer oppose the questions (…)," Vela expressed.
It should be noted Barata is a key actor in the investigations being carried out by the Prosecutor's Office on the Odebrecht case.

As is known, the Brazilian construction giant admitted to having paid millions in bribes to government officials in Peru, in order to secure public-works contracts.
As a result,
Odebrecht benefited from over US$143 million between 2005 and 2014 in Peru, according to the U.S. Justice Department.
