At the opening of the 1st International Uranium and Lithium Forum, President Jose Maria Balcazar underscored his conviction that these minerals will benefit Peru's development.

Balcazar said that, during his time at Parliament, while chairing the Congressional Committee on the Creation of Universities, he visited Carabaya province, Puno region, where a significant share of lithium is concentrated.

"Since those days, I already had—and still have—the conviction that lithium can become one of the country's key driving forces, given its growing role in national life, industry, and large-scale battery manufacturing," he said in his speech.

The Head of State said the 1st International Uranium and Lithium Forum will have global repercussions.

Likewise, the top official expressed his conviction that a project to extract these minerals in partnership with the private sector will bring real development to the country.

"Let us forget, once and for all, the idea that Peru will be developed through a purely extractive economy. Purely extractive economies have failed because they will always perpetuate social inequalities. We need companies that contribute to an inclusive economy," Balcazar pointed out.

The president also said the Executive Branch remains firmly committed to providing support until the final day of his term and highlighted the country's mineral wealth.

After that, he officially opened this international event organized by the Ministries of Energy and Mines and of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation.
