In order to honor Liberator Jose de San Martin's legacy,
reaffirmed the Government's political decision to promote measures aimed at strengthening national sovereignty, consolidating strategic capabilities, and guaranteeing the country's security.
The high-ranking official made the remarks during the solemn session of the Sanmartiniano Institute of Peru, a civic-patriotic cultural association.
The institution awarded him the Sanmartinian Palms in the Rank of Grand Officer in recognition of his distinguished professional career, vocation of service, leadership, and commitment to the nation's highest interests.
"Because a free country must be a strong country as well, capable of protecting its interests and securing its own destiny," Arroyo underscored.
In this regard, the Cabinet chief said Peru faces complex challenges similar in essence to those of the independence struggle.
He noted that the country is defending not only its geographic borders, but also the democratic institutional framework, stability, social cohesion, as well as the hopes of millions of Peruvians seeking a fairer, safer, and more humane nation.
In light of this situation, the Government's spokesman stressed that the homeland is not built from comfort or political calculation, but through duty, sacrifice, and absolute dedication to the common good.
"I will not relent until the short-term goals set in favor of those most in need are achieved, and I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to defend the nation against any threat targeting sovereignty and national defense," Arroyo reaffirmed.
"Always with honor, determination, and permanent service to the country," he added.
At another point, the official stressed that invoking the legacy of Jose de San Martin goes beyond remembering an exceptional military strategist.
The Prime Minister noted it also means embracing the idea that freedom must rest on moral principles, respect for human dignity, and the building of strong institutions.
Before concluding, Arroyo said the decoration represents a mandate of service and a reminder that the homeland stands above any individual interest.
"This honor demands that I always act with integrity in difficult times and remain firm in my conviction to serve the nation with loyalty and honor," he stated.
