Peru pays tribute to hero Miguel Grau and Battle of Angamos

Peruvian government celebrated Tuesday the 134rd anniversary of the Battle of Angamos which honors the memory of the Navy Admiral Miguel Grau, hero of the War of the Pacific.
The commemoration ceremony was led by the President of Peru’s Council of Ministers, Juan Jimenez, and the Minister of Defense, Pedro Cateriano who placed wreaths at the monument of the national hero. 

Attending the ceremony, which also marked 192nd anniversary of the Peruvian Navy, were government senior officials of the military and civic life, as well as foreign diplomatic missions.

Miguel Grau Seminario is well-known as the “Knight of the Seas” who fought in the Naval Battle of Angamos which took place on October 8, 1879, during the War of the Pacific (1879-1884) against Chile. 

He is the greatest hero of the Peruvian nation and its Navy for his honor, courage in the battle and faithfulness to noble ideals.

The military and civic act closed with the annual parade in which delegations of Peru's Navy, Army, Air Force and National Police took part.
