The exclusive attributes of Peruvian specialty coffee captivated the 27 buyers from 13 nationalities who participated in the business round held within the framework of Ficafe Puno 2023, resulting in projected sales of US$15.5 million to be realized in the next twelve months.

The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) reported that this figure far exceeds the initial estimated amount of US$3.5 million.

Representatives from 61 companies and producer associations from 12 regions participated in the round: Amazonas, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huanuco, Junin, Lima, Pasco, Piura, Puno, and San Martin.

They held 441 business meetings with buyers from Germany, Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Taiwan.

Of the total international buyers, 50% have not yet acquired this Peruvian product, and in this first experience, they highlighted the quality of specialty and organic coffees.

It should be noted that PromPeru launched the sector brand "Cafes del Peru" in August 2018 as a priority and objective of the National Action Plan for Peruvian Coffee to develop promotion strategies and tools for the sector, allowing the dissemination and differentiation of this Peruvian product, showcasing its qualities, origin, and sustainability.

The export business round was co-organized by the Regional Government of Puno and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

Tourism Round

Within the context of Ficafe, PromPeru also organized the tourism business round, aiming to contribute to the reactivation of the sector in the Puno region.

Fifteen buyers from Lima, Arequipa, and La Libertad participated, along with 15 local exhibitors representing lodging establishments, travel agencies, and community tourism ventures.

This activity concluded with a total of 225 conducted meetings resulting in S/2.3 million (about US$604,308) in business, surpassing the initially estimated S/1.5 million (about US$394,114).

To complement the round, buyers also had the opportunity to take a familiarization trip to explore the tourist products in the southern area of Puno, such as the Aymara route and the floating island of Chimu, in addition to the coffee offerings found at Ficafe.
