The Peruvian Government deeply laments the loss of human lives, the dozens of injured citizens, and the material damage caused by the recent earthquake in Cebu Province, the Philippines.
"Peru expresses its solidarity with the victims' families and extends its best wishes for the swift recovery of the injured and those affected," the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated via social media on Wednesday.
A strong 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck central Philippines last Tuesday, causing at least 26 deaths, around a hundred injuries, and the collapse of several buildings, authorities reported.
The earthquake occurred at 9:59 p.m. local time (1:59 p.m. GMT) off the northern coast of Cebu Island, near Bogo, a city of 90,000 inhabitants.
The Cebu Provincial Government reported the collapse of a commercial building and a school in Bantayan, while a fast-food restaurant in Bogo was severely damaged.
Several rural roads also sustained damage.
