Peru: Health Minister meets with WHO Director-General in Geneva

In an effort to coordinate strategic actions in favor of public health in Peru, Health Minister Juan Carlos Velasco held a meeting with World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

The talks were held during the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland.

Progress on the implementation of the International Health Regulations in Peru was presented in order to consolidate a roadmap against future pandemics, Minsa detailed in a post on X.

Likewise, Minister Velasco Guerrero proposed to the WHO "strengthening the International Recruitment Code through fair bilateral agreements and co-investment strategies among countries to protect healthcare personnel and regulate digital medical migration."

Lastly, the "Health Route" strategy aimed at closing gaps in 55 Indigenous communities was outlined, while WHO support was requested to strengthen bilingual training and integrate traditional practices with Western medicine.
