A delegation from the International Security Cooperation Directorate (DCIS) at the
France's Embassy in Peru and the
French National Gendarmerie —made up of professionals specialized in mountain flying, first aid, as well as in rescue in rough terrain, rivers, lakes, and mountains— is training members of the High Mountain Police in Cusco.
Led by Lieutenant Colonel David Drouaud, Police Attaché of the French Embassy in Peru, the experts —made up of a pilot, a mechanic, heads of boarding and rescue missions from the National Training Centre for Skiing and Mountaineering Gendarmerie (CNISAG) based in Chamonix, a civil ICU doctor, and a translator— provide training in the open field.
The training focuses on first aid, the use of personal protection equipment (PPE), and the rescue of helicoptered victims using an overhead crane.
Peruvian agents and pilots have been receiving training in mountain flying since May 16 and the process will be completed on May 20.
This preparation will serve for emergencies and disaster interventions in the regions of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Apurimac, Madre de Dios, and Cusco.
It should be pointed out that the Peruvian National Police (PNP) staff prepared a heliport at 3,515 meters above sea level, in the district of Cachimayo, for the implementation of training activities.
The USAM-PNP Heliport is designated as the operations center for helicopter rescue flights and mountain flights.
Simulated rescue operations are carried out in rivers, lakes, and mountains, with the support of an aircraft, in adjacent areas of the province of Anta and in the districts of Cachimayo and Chincheros. Police Aviation Directorate (DIRAVPOL) agents also joined the training.
