10:42 | Lima, Jan. 15.

The nighttime curfew in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region will be brought forward to 9:00 p.m. starting tonight, as both areas face a high-level risk linked to a second COVID-19 wave.

In Metropolitan Lima and Callao, the use of private vehicles will be restricted on Sundays.

Both measures will be in force from January 15 to 31. Later, these will be reviewed to decide whether they are lifted or remain in force.

Curfew hours will be extended in the country as long as the contagion risk grows —as has happened in the capital city in recent weeks.

Very high alert

The Government ordered that the mandatory social immobilization or curfew in the regions of Ancash, Ica, Junin, Lambayeque, Piura, Tacna, and Lima provinces shall run from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day.

Every Sunday, curfew will be in force all day long in each one of these areas.

This measure will be in force from January 15 to January 31.

High alert

Besides Metropolitan Lima and Callao, Arequipa, Apurimac, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huanuco, La Libertad, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno, and Tumbes regions have been included in a list of regions under high alert.

In each one of them, the mandatory curfew will run from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day.

Moderate alert

The Government also ordered that the mandatory social immobilization or curfew in the regions of Amazonas, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Loreto, San Martin, and Ucayali will be in force from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.
