on Wednesday stated that the Executive Branch continues to carry out its administrative duties to ensure the government remains operational.
The Cabinet Chief made these remarks after visiting Congress Acting Chairman Fernando Rospigliosi.
Following the meeting, he stated that "the Executive Branch continues to carry out administrative duties to ensure the functioning of each sector, and that the only officeholder with a political mandate is the chairman of Congress."
Likewise, Alvarez highlighted the Citizen Security Plan and recommended that whoever assumes the Presidency of the Republic should follow its guidelines, refining it "so as not to start from scratch."
At another point, the Prime Minister explained that the meeting with the acting head of Parliament focused on the need to build short-term consensus.
"Today, I expressed to Mr. Chairman of Congress, Fernando Rospigliosi, our strongest willingness to help—within our capacity this afternoon and evening—in electing a president, whether a man or a woman, capable not only of leading the Peruvian State through the remaining four months, but, above all, of forging the necessary consensus to ensure free and impartial general elections," he indicated.
Therefore, Alvarez clarified that "from a technical standpoint, filing a competence claim would not be possible," arguing that such a move "would further complicate Peru's situation."
He added that "it would not be a good signal for us to deepen and exacerbate that crisis ourselves."
