The artificial intelligence (AI) market is growing at a vertiginously pace worldwide, and Peru is no exception.

However, various studies point to a mismatch between technological advances and organizations' readiness to harness AI's full potential.

A study by the Peruvian Chamber of Electronic Commerce (Capece) reveals that 8 out of 10 companies in the South American country already use AI.

However, only 13% do so at an advanced level, meaning beyond using it for specific tasks or for disconnected processes and systems.

Peru already has a strong digital foundation, although gaps remain that limit the development of e-commerce and business competitiveness.

The startup Primero, which focuses on AI transformation for large Latin American corporations, identifies one of the main challenges in AI adoption.

Critical company data is scattered across systems that were never designed to work together, including ERPs, CRMs, financial platforms, and warehouse systems.

Globally, organizations manage an average of 957 different applications, but only 27% are connected to one another.

The cost of that fragmentation is tangible for a current consumer goods client, whose retail deductions were scattered across its ERP, WMS, external platforms, and accounting software.

The startup Primero announced a US$12 million seed funding round, one of the largest in the sector's history in Latin America.

The investment will allow it to continue helping companies generate higher profits by modernizing their operations and expanding them into other territories, including Peru.

"The world's most competitive companies can be built from Latin America. The region has world-class companies that are the heart of this economy, and AI is the opportunity they have to make an unprecedented leap in competitiveness," said Primero Co-CEO Jose Murillo.
