England’s Arsenal will deploy a scouting team to run the rule over Fiorentina’s Juan Manuel Vargas in Saturday’s match against Catania before deciding whether to make a January bid.
The Peruvian is almost certain to be sold in the New Year after having a bust-up with Viola manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, and the Gunners, who are long-term admirers of the left-sider, are believed to be leading the chase for his signature.
If the Gunners scouts report back favorably to Arsene Wenger, the Frenchman is expected to move quickly for the 28-year-old as he looks to find cover for Gervinho, who’s set for African Cup of Nations duty in January, metro.co.uk reported.
According to the Italian press, Vargas has already apologized to the Serbian coach for his lack of discipline and is back training with his team, which is to face his former side on matchday eight of Italian Serie A.
