The Executive Branch conveyed its best wishes to men and women engaged in journalism on the occasion of Journalist's Day, which is commemorated today in Peru.
In a post on social media, the
Presidency of the Republic expressed recognition to journalists, who fulfil the
valuable role of informing Peruvians daily, with truthfulness, objectivity, and responsibility,.
"Today we greet women and men in media who, day after day, carry out the valuable mission of informing Peruvians with truthfulness, objectivity, and responsibility. Happy Journalist's Day!" reads the message.
In Peru, Journalists' Day is celebrated on October 1, commemorating the appearance of Diario de Lima. It was founded by journalist Francisco Antonio Evaristo Cabello y Mesa, who used to write under the pseudonym Jaime Bausate y Meza, in 1790.
This became the first publication to address local issues, with some medical reports related to healing practices of that time.
The Day of Peruvian Journalists was proclaimed on October 1, 1953, via Supreme Decree No. 2521.
