Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi on Wednesday affirmed that handing over the Pacific Alliance Pro-Tempore Presidency to Peru, from August 1, 2023, was a consensual decision.

The Cabinet member pointed out that said decision reaffirms the importance of preserving the bloc as a mechanism for economic, commercial, and cooperative integration.

"On August 1, Peru will assume the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance, after a consensual decision that reaffirms the importance of preserving the bloc as a mechanism for economic, trade, and cooperative integration," Gervasi reported via the Foreign Affairs Ministry's official Twitter account.

The Pro-Tempore Presidency will be first exercised by Chile starting today, June 28, following a decision made by the four member countries at a meeting held in Santiago earlier today.

Chilean Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren; Mexican Ambassador to Chile, Alicia Barcena; Peruvian Charge d'Affaires in Chile, Renzo Villa Prado; and Colombian Charge d'Affaires in Chile, Rene Correa Rodriguez participated in the meeting.

The authorities of these four member countries reaffirmed their commitment to the bloc "as a mechanism for political articulation, economic-commercial integration, cooperation, and projection to the world."

At the end of May, Peruvian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ignacio Higueras thanked Chile given its public support for Peru to receive the Pro-Tempore Presidency.
