Peru to hold Pacific Alliance Pro-Tempore Presidency in August

Peru will assume the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance from August 1, 2023, Chilean Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van Klaveren has announced.

This decision was made by representatives of Pacific Alliance member countries gathered in the Chilean city of Santiago.

Similarly, they agreed that starting today, June 28, Chile will exercise the Pro-Tempore Presidency of this integration mechanism.

This agreement reflects the political will to continue betting on Latin American integration, which favors dialogue, economic-commercial exchange, cooperation and international insertion, said a release by Peru's Foreign Affairs Ministry

Besides, the Pacific Alliance work is relaunched and the role of diplomacy, as a means to achieve commitments through dialogue, is highlighted.

Chilean Foreign Affairs Minister Alberto van KlaverenMexican Ambassador to Chile Alicia Barcena; Peruvian Charge d'Affaires in Chile Renzo Villa Prado; and Colombian Charge d'Affaires in Chile Rene Correa Rodriguez participated in the meeting.

At this significant event, the authorities of these four member countries reaffirmed their commitment to the bloc "as a mechanism for political articulation, economic-commercial integration, cooperation, and projection to the world."

Moreover, the representatives affirmed that this bloc seeks to move "progressively towards the free circulation of goods, services, capital, and people with the aim of promoting the growth and competitiveness of economies, for the benefit of inhabitants."

About the PA

As is known, the Pacific Alliance (PA) is an economic and development initiative among four member nations (Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru).

This bloc constitutes an integration area to boost growth, as well as to achieve the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people.
