Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea indicated that Peru will become the region's logistics hub and a trade bridge to the Asia-Pacific region thanks to the upcoming completion of important projects on the central coast, as well as the creation of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Before South Korean businesspeople, the government official pointed out that Peru is a country safe for investments.

The Cabinet member added that expectations include the involvement of South Korean initiatives, known for their advanced technology and expertise.

He stated that, according to the latest projections by the Ministry of Economy-Finance (MEF), Peru's economic activity might grow by 3.3% during the 2024-2027 period thanks to investments in infrastructure, increased supply of primary products, improvement in external demand, and the strengthening of competitiveness.

Regarding the multimodal logistics hub, it was disclosed that this venture involves the expansion of Jorge Chavez International Airport, as well as of the Northern and Southern Docks at the Callao Port, alongside the construction of Chancay Megaport, and the forthcoming Industrial Park in Ancon (PIA) —all of them interconnected by a transportation network to be designated as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) offering tax and economic incentives.

Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea emphasized that the aforementioned Chancay Megaport will turn Peru into the first logistics hub in the South-American Pacific, serving as coordinator for merchant routes and cross-border freight transport, thereby reducing logistical costs by 15% and travel time to the Asia-Pacific by approximately 10 days.

Within this framework, he shared that Peru represents an opportunity for investors as it is integrated into the world through 22 free trade agreements (FTAs) along with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Regarding the mining outlook, he underscored that Peru is the world's second-largest producer of copper and zinc, as well as the country hosting the second-largest reserves of copper and silver.

Finally, it was reported on the awarding in 2024 of the following infrastructure projects: San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal, Huancayo Huancavelica Railway, Callao-San Luis Peripheral Road Ring, among others.
