Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Monday affirmed that progress in the execution of the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal is going according to schedule, despite the controversy generated around the essential services in this port.

"Everything is in progress, even at high speed," Gonzalez-Olaechea said in an interview with RPP Noticias.

In addition, he reiterated the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping during the inauguration of the Port of Chancay, which will take place within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit from November 10 to 16, 2024.

The Cabinet member said that the visit of the Asian dignitary is unofficially confirmed, noting that the official diplomatic note is awaited.

Likewise, the Foreign Affairs sector's head reported that he has received an official invitation to travel to China at the end of this month, where he will fulfill a busy work schedule.

Regarding the conflict generated around the exclusivity of services at the Port of Chancay, the minister is confident that the problem will be resolved with adequate legislation approved by the Congress of the Republic.

He underscored that precise regulations will provide greater clarity and, thus, the Executive Branch will act within the framework of the new legislation.

Furthermore, the government official stated that the corresponding Congress Commission (that of Transportation and Communications) will meet to review the issue and provide a solution to the omissions in the regulatory framework governing the national port system.
