The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Song Yang, stated that his country is committed to working together with Peru to ensure the Chancay Port's sustained development.

The diplomat highlighted that Chancay is a golden port.

He emphasized that the commercial volume handled by this infrastructure reached US$1.88 billion from January to September, contributed S/820 million (US$242 million) in taxes to Peru, and drove a 23.3% growth in trade volume between both countries.

In addition, it helps the South American country surpass US$85 billion in total trade.

"China is committed to working hand in hand with the Government of Peru to ensure the rapid and lasting development of the Chancay Port and to maintain it as a prosperous, secure, and drug-free port," he stated during the launch of the Joint Control Unit at Chancay Port Terminal.

The Chinese ambassador to Peru underscored that the port generates 900 jobs, 56% of which are for local residents.

"With the direct route from Chancay to Shanghai, high-quality Peruvian products reach China in just 23 days. This regional hub accelerates the construction of the New Land-Sea Corridor between Asia and Latin America. The Special Economic Zones (SEZs) Law approved by Congress gives wings to the takeoff of the Chancay–Callao–Lima economic belt," he noted.

The diplomat added that the Chinese side is willing to encourage its companies to make more investments and operations in Peru and to promote the construction of industrial parks.

The ambassador mentioned that, from the arrival of ships and dockside transport to yard operations, the port carries out automated and intelligent management throughout every process.

"The port's highly efficient operations leave no room for drug trafficking to hide. Three weeks ago, Minister Sun Meijun, Chief of the General Administration of Customs of China, visited Peru and witnessed the twinning between Chancay Customs and Shanghai Customs, the world's busiest customs office," he said.

He also emphasized that the National Superintendence of Tax Administration (SUNAT) and China Customs signed a Roadmap for the Joint Work Plan to strengthen cooperation in the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking, jointly protecting the "Chancay to Shanghai" route's prosperity and security.

"China firmly combats drug trafficking and maintains a zero-tolerance policy. As the second-largest contributor to the UN budget and a permanent partner of the UNODC, China is an important participant, a responsible actor, and an active contributor to the global fight against drugs," the ambassador underlined.

"Through mechanisms such as the China–CELAC Forum, we are willing to deepen cooperation in the fight against drugs and transnational organized crime," he concluded.
