BCR: Peru's total credit up 6.5% in 2025

Private-sector credit—which includes loans granted by banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings institutions, and cooperatives—grew by 6.5% in 2025, the highest annual rate since 2020 (11.5%), the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

"By segment, in 2025 credit to individuals rose by 6.9% year on year, while that granted to companies increased by 6.2%," the issuing entity indicated.

"The increase in the latter, excluding the impact of amortizations and loan repayments under the Reactiva Peru Program, was 7%," it added.

The BCR said that, on a monthly basis, credit rose by 0.6% in December 2025, driven by a 0.9% increase in loans to companies and a 0.3% rise in credit to individuals.

By currency, credit in Peruvian soles increased by 5% year on year in 2025, while foreign-currency credit grew by 12.2%, the institution said.

"On a monthly basis, credit in local currency grew by 0.3%, while dollar-denominated credit rose by 1.8%," it added.
