With an investment of 53 million dollars, shopping center operator Aventura Plaza has began the construction of its shopping mall in Arequipa in southern Peru, said Wednesday the company's marketing manager, Daniel Duharte.

The mall is being built in the former Hipodromo de Porongoche and its anchor stores are Ripley, Saga Falabella, Tottus, Sodimac, and Max.

The project also includes more than 160 specialty stores, a financial boulevard with six banks, a Cinemark with six screens, an entertainment area, a food court with 12 establishments and five restaurants, as well as a parking lot for 1,200 vehicles.

Daniel Duharte mentioned that the mall is expected to open by this year end, with $100 million in sales in the first year of operations.

At present, Aventura Plaza operates two shopping malls in the country; one is located in the northern city of Trujillo (La Libertad) and the other in Callao province in Lima.
