Within the framework of the
APEC Senior Officials' Meeting 1 (SOM1),
Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry's Secretary-General, Ambassador Eric Anderson Machado, provided details of the progress made on the Roadmap proposed by Peru for the transition to the formal economy, an initiative that will receive the support from the bloc's member economies.
"We are deeply grateful for the support from APEC member economies and their willingness to cooperate with Peru in this crucial initiative," he expressed.
In his speech, the Secretary-General reported that the Key Elements Table has been shared with APEC member economies. It outlines key areas and proposed actions that may be components of this document.
"We expect your valuable comments to facilitate the drafting of a preliminary version of the Roadmap in the following weeks," he added.
Ambassador Anderson indicated that attempts have been made to hold a series of private-public dialogues and workshops during the Peruvian APEC Presidency, aimed at getting recommendations and better practices that may be included in the development of the Roadmap.
"This document will inform and guide policymakers who seek to implement measures leading to the transition of informal economy actors within the formal economy," he affirmed.
Also attending the dialogue were Hernando de Soto, head of the Freedom and Democracy Institute (ILD); and Corinne Delechat, deputy director in the IMF's Asia and Pacific Department, among others.
