Qatari State-funded broadcaster Al Jazeera has taken a look at
Aprendo en Casa (I Learn at Home) —a distance-learning program instituted by Peru amid the COVID-19 health emergency.
Thus, the publication described it as a successful education-from-home TV show that covers Peru's school curricula for children in lockdown.
In the piece of writing, The Listening Post's Meenakshi Ravi revealed how Fatima Saldonid —a journalist and newsreader on the public broadcaster
TV Peru— became one of the presenters of this program, whose production was requested by the Education Ministry because schools were being shut.
On the other hand, the article highlighted that
authorities in Peru opted for this strategy, rather than just delivering classes online, because the Internet does not have the same reach in this nation as television.
Additionally, it stressed the fact that the project required close coordination not only with TV Peru, but with private channels and radio stations as well.
Finally, the story concluded by saying that despite the limitations in terms of structural inequality, Aprendo en Casa has proven that public and private media can work together "to improve prospects for young people in Peru."
