The air traffic in Peru recovered by 102% compared to pre-pandemic levels, during January-November 2024 period, highlighted the the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC), through the General Directorate for Civil Aviation (DGAC).
From January to November 2024, a total of 23,669,100 passengers traveled by air to and from Lima via regular service, both domestically and internationally, which represented a recovery of 102 % compared to pre-pandemic levels for the same period in 2019, explained the DGAC.
About domestic flights, 13,583,793 passengers were transported to and from Lima, representing 57.4 % of the total number of passengers and a recovery of 114.3 % compared to 2019.
This growth reflects strong demand for key domestic destinations, such as Cusco (25.1 % of total passengers), which remains the most popular destination, followed by Arequipa (14.1 %), Tarapoto (7.4 %), Piura (7.3 %), and Trujillo (6.3 %).
Meanwhile, in the international arena, 10,085,307 passengers traveled to and from Lima, representing 42.6% of the total passengers transported and a recovery of 90.6% compared to 2019.
The most frequented international destinations connected to Lima were Santiago de Chile (15.1 %), Madrid (8.9 %), Miami (8.3 %), Bogotá (7.7 %), and Buenos Aires (6.25 %).
South America led the international market with 2,535,701 passengers (49.6 % of the total), followed by North America (1,321,628 passengers or 25.9 %), Europe (667,215 passengers or 13.1 %), and the Caribbean (584,981 passengers or 11.4 %).
“These results reflect not only the high demand for regional and global destinations but also the MTC's commitment to ensuring efficient and safe connectivity throughout the country by promoting the improvement of air infrastructure nationwide,” stated the MTC.
Finally the MTC highlighted that this progress will continue to boost tourism, trade, and development opportunities for all Peruvians.
