President Vizcarra calls for unity in Peru

13:30 | Callao (Callao region), Dec. 14.

President Martin Vizcarra on Friday urged all Peruvians to work together in favor of the nation's development, regardless of ideological, political, or social differences.

"I make a call for unity, efforts, and optimism of all Peruvians (…) in order to build a better future," the Head of State expressed.

According to the top official, the Inca country's population has set a path for the nation in the December 9 referendum, adding it has chosen democracy, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption

He also pointed out Peruvians have opted for a true and effective democracy that will involve them in the nation's decision-making processes linked to core issues.

"It is time to listen to the people. It is not the time to turn our backs on the citizens," the statesman added.

Likewise, he indicated the population's will —expressed in the referendum— will be implemented by his administration.

Furthermore, President Vizcarra recalled this process requires the participation of all the State's branches and institutions, plus the monitoring and watchfulness by Peruvian citizens.

"It is the only way to strengthen and deepen democracy," he concluded.

Remarks were made during the Naval Academy's year-closing ceremony.
