The President of the Republic Francisco on Tuesday said he is confident that the nation will know how to overcome difficulties and continue to grow based on joint efforts by its authorities, the private sector, and civil society.

In an interview with Radio Exitosa, the Head of State recalled that Peruvians have faced difficult or uncertain situations long before, but they have always come forward with the aim of improving living conditions.

"I am convinced that this will remain in place," he emphasized.

After highlighting the reaction capacity existing in the country, the statesman said his administration —which took office in November 2020— has worked to reduce inequality gaps, but this will remain a task for the next governments.

While giving an assessment of his administration —which is set to leave office on July 28— the leader pointed out that progress is clear in the fight against COVID-19 thanks to the arrival of vaccines, oxygen, and ICU beds.

Concerning economic matters, he affirmed that progress is not highly noticeable, but going from a total quarantine to a gradual and focalized scheme has certainly led to an improvement.

"If there is no new wave, Peru could resume face-to-face classes (…) in January 2022, but it will depend on how we behave; if we respect the distancing rules and the use of face masks, that will help a lot for the return to face-to-face classes," he stressed.

"We have fulfilled what was promised," he highlighted.

The President also estimated that whoever succeeds him in office will surely make a clear assessment on what works and what does not, but stressed that he is leaving a legacy with a series of possible paths in terms of the economy, health, transportation, housing, and other sectors.
