The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Friday reiterated her call for peace to reign in the country and lamented the death of Peruvians during the demonstrations held in Ayacucho region.

Via her official Twitter account, the Head of State expressed condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in various parts of Peru.

"We cry the mourning of mothers in Ayacucho, and we suffer the pain of families nationwide. Today (Thursday), on a sad day of violence, we mourn the death of Peruvians again. My deep condolences to the bereaved," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

"I reiterate my call for peace," she added.

The Ayacucho Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) on Thursday reported that clashes in the area surrounding Alfredo Mendivil Duarte Airport and other points in said South Andean region have left seven people dead and 52 injured.

According to figures from the Health Ministry, the death toll due to protests in Apurimac, Arequipa, La Libertad, and Ayacucho regions totaled 14 thru December 15 at 7:16 p.m. (local time).

Last Wednesday, the Peruvian Government published Supreme Decree No. 143-2022-PCM declaring a state of emergency nationwide in order to curb acts of violence and restore internal order, as well as ensure the continuity of economic activities.

On Thursday, the Government decreed curfew in various provinces across eight Peruvian regions —excluding Lima— for five calendar days —within the framework of the State of Emergency put in place nationwide due to the conflict situation that the country is going through.
