Peru's President: We will be available to new government beyond July 28 if necessary

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Tuesday affirmed that his administration works in an orderly manner during the transition process, adding that its members will be available to the new government beyond July 28, 2021, if his successor deems it necessary.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated that his administration is currently preparing a transfer with transparency.

"The ministries are working to present what is advanced and what is pending (...) so that the incoming government will rely on all the information on the case," he expressed.

The current administration —the top official stressed— wants the transfer process to be as orderly as possible, so that there are no shocks among citizens or in the economy.

Given that the formal transition period has been shortened because the National Election Board (JNE) has not yet issued a final ruling on the June 6 presidential election runoff, he said State ministers will be available to the new government beyond July 28 —the transfer date established by the Constitution.

"They will have us available for as long as they deem it necessary so that all information can guide the actions of the incoming government," he emphasized.

Remarks were made during a conference in Ayacucho, where Mr. Sagasti arrived to deliver a new batch of COVID-19 vaccines, supervise the vaccination of rural teachers, and carry out other activities.
