| Lima, Feb. 6.
The President of the Republic President Francisco Sagasti has affirmed that the
COVID-19 vaccine constitutes the best defense against the pandemic.
In an interview with Latina TV channel, the Head of State announced that he will be immunized with the vaccine from China's laboratory Sinopharm to prove citizens that it is safe.
As is known,
the first batch of these doses will arrive in the South American country on February 7.
As the top official recalled, since 1796, when the physician doctor Edward Jenner administered the first vaccine against smallpox to an eight-year-old boy, these have been used to defend lives and prevent diseases such as polio and measles.
"Now they are helping us to defend ourselves against COVID-19, and I will be one of the first people who will lend the shoulder to get the vaccine," he stated.
The statesman also said that citizens must get ready and ignore those who claim that the vaccine has problems.
"Any vaccine, the vaccine in this case, is the best defense against the pandemic," he stressed.
On Sunday, 300,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine will arrive in Peru
, with which
the immunization of health personnel will begin either on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.
These doses are part of a total of one million agreed with the aforementioned Chinese laboratory for the current month.
