Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez has indicated that the vaccines —which have been negotiated and purchased by the Peruvian Government to face the COVID-19 pandemic— comply with all international standards to protect the population nationwide.

"We must inform that each vaccine has a different range, but all of them meet the standards to protect the population," she said in remarks to Cuarto Poder TV show on Sunday night.

Concerning Sinopharm's product, the Cabinet chief indicated that it is within the margin of efficacy required by the agencies in charge of certifying vaccines.

"Sinopharm relies on a certification in China, and we are proceeding to also issue one in our country. The degree of efficacy is within international standards," she expressed.

In this sense, the high-ranking official explained that immunizations are prepared and tested in periods of between 5 and 10 years. However, given the pandemic and emergency situation, laboratories had to accelerate their procedures.

Likewise, the PCM head highlighted the collaboration of the 12,000 volunteers who participated in Sinopharm clinical trials in Peru, which allowed the nation to have priority for the acquisition of their vaccine against the new coronavirus.

Bermudez also stressed that the Government has completed two vaccine-related negotiations to immunize citizens against COVID-19.

"One (agreement was signed) with Sinopharm to receive a first batch of one million vaccines, but within a greater agreement; (we have also signed an agreement) with AstraZeneca for more than 14 million (doses), and we already have a commitment from the COVAX Facility," she indicated.
