The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Wednesday afternoon urged the population to lend a shoulder for Peru and get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) when the time comes.

At a press conference, the Head of State urged Peruvians not to lower their guard and announced that a campaign to provide information about the COVID-19 vaccines will be launched soon.

"I call on everyone to do their part. The Government is doing the best job it can under difficult circumstances. Success will not be possible without the participation and cooperation of everyone," he stressed.

Collective progress to vaccinate all Peruvians as soon as possible will depend on immediate action on the matter.

"I hope that most of those who need to be vaccinated can receive the vaccine before the harsh winter sets in," he indicated.

The Peruvian leader explained that established decision criteria have been considered by the Government when adopting the measures for the different regions of the country.

Additionally, the President disclosed that the regions have been classified into different alert levels: moderate, high, very high, and extreme.

He went on to say that the population must continue to abide to the personal protective measures such as the use of face masks, frequent hand-hygiene, physical distancing, as well as avoiding spaces and crowds.
