The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Friday afternoon confirmed the departure of the first shipment of vaccines en route from China to Peru, adding that these will arrive on Sunday, February 7.

The Head of State specified that this is a first batch consisting of 300,000 vaccines.

"The shipment of a first batch of 300,000 doses has been achieved, which will arrive in Lima on Sunday evening. The rest are scheduled to leave China on the 13th," Mr. Sagasti said in a televised address to the nation.

"Our administration always tells the truth and things as they are; that is why today, at this time, we can announce the departure of this first shipment," he stressed.

From the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) in Lima, the top official affirmed that this institution is ready to ensure that the vaccine logistics chain operates efficiently during the transfer to Peru and throughout the national territory.

Nonetheless, he said, this endeavor demands the commitment and additional efforts of all Peruvians to strictly comply with the protocols and respect the mobility restrictions —as part of the sanitary measures.

"We work tirelessly to achieve the goal that our Government has set itself in the fight against the pandemic, which is to protect the health of all Peruvians," he expressed.

The President also mentioned that this is a firm first step in the vaccination process, which restores the hope of all Peruvians.

"It will take time to complete these efforts, but have confidence, assurance, and hope that we will make it through," he stated.
