The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti has affirmed that joint efforts on the vaccination process, which include the purchase and administration of doses against COVID-19, denote a legacy left by the current government.

"The important thing is continuity, and one of the suggestions is teamwork, as it has taken a long time to assemble and form a team; in the case of the vaccination team —both for negotiations and for administering vaccines— it entailed a learning process for a few months, but we want to leave it as legacy (for the new government)," he said in remarks to TVPeru.

The top official explained that this task consisted of virtual meetings with Cabinet chief Violeta Bermudez, as well as Ministers Oscar Ugarte (Health), Waldo Mendoza (Economy-Finance), and Allan Wagner (Foreign Affairs) every week. At those events decisions were made and instructions were given to move the process forward.

"For this reason, if we go back to the traditional scheme, where one minister sends a memorandum to another and that (minister) replies it, while another instance waits for the money to act, we will lose many things," he pointed out.

The statesman also argued that this willingness to collaborate and work as a team was also replicated during the vaccine administration process, through the creation of a technical secretariat in charge of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which allowed all sectors involved to "discuss among them, face problems, and unblock those things that used to make the vaccination process slower."
