More than 240,000 residents of Metropolitan Lima and Callao region were vaccinated against COVID-19 during the second Vaccinathon held last weekend, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez has reported.

According to the Cabinet chief, the second Vaccinathon was also a success at the 22 vaccination centers destined for this campaign.

"The updated information today (Wednesday) revealed that over 240,000 people were inoculated in Lima and Callao. We extend our recognition to all the people who showed up with joy and enthusiasm to get vaccinated, and a special recognition to the vaccination teams that worked in longer shifts, thus providing 36 hours of non-stop vaccination at the sites destined for such purpose," she emphasized.

Bermudez highlighted the fact that similar initiatives were held in other regions such as Cusco and Tumbes.

"Cusco Region Governor (Jean Paul Benavente) logged on at the end of the Vaccinathon in Lima and Callao to share very important information: the region's goal was to administer 30,000 doses; however, it applied 47,000, which means this vaccination strategy is quite positive," she pointed out.

Russian vaccines

Bermudez recalled that there was no vaccine available in the country in November 2020. Now —in addition to the secured batch— Peru has signed a new agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund, which manages the sales of Sputnik V.

Remarks were made on Wednesday during a press conference held at the Government Palace in Lima.
