The Transition and Emergency Government will approve a new massive vaccination plan against COVID-19 this week, Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti has confirmed.

"This will be possible as we have managed to increase the doses of vaccines that Pfizer will provide us in the first quarter (of 2021)," Mr. Sagasti wrote on Twitter on Monday night.

The Head of State affirmed that his administration has advanced the arrival of Pfizer vaccines initially scheduled for the second half and is purchasing additional doses.

"This will enable us to increase, in the month of May, Pfizer doses from 1.8 million to 2.8 million, which will serve to increase the speed of the vaccination (process)," he added.

Peru has secured contracts to acquire 48 million doses of vaccines against COVID-19 in order to immunize all citizens aged above 18 until the end of 2021.
