As the Peruvian National Police doubles efforts to locate mining businessman Jans Marty Lara Tantaquilla, who was kidnapped in Trujillo, northern Peru, in the early hours of August 30, four families are mourning the cruel murder of the four occupants who were traveling in the same vehicle as the businessman.
The victims were identified as Christopher Garcia Alvarez, 32, who was general manager of security company Army United, according to his relatives, who said he leaves his 10-year-old daughter orphaned.
He is a native of Trujillo's Salaverry district, where he even played the role of a Roman soldier during a reenactment of the Passion and Crucifixion of Jesus during Holy Week.
Garcia Alvarez provided security services to mining companies in Quiruvilca district, Santiago de Chuco province.
The other victim is Luis Alberto Rojas Ramos, 35.
According to his family, he worked as a security guard and was also a jiu-jitsu instructor. His academy was located in the Natash Alta neighborhood.
Following his brutal murder, he leaves his 17-year-old daughter orphaned.
At that time, both men were guarding Lara Tantaquilla.
The other victims
Another occupant of the attacked vehicle was Farhad Andrea Monzon Lingan, who has been linked romantically to the kidnapped businessman.
Nadia Urtecho Rodriguez was also fatally shot inside the vehicle.
She held a bachelor's degree in business administration, as confirmed by the Regional College of Licensed Administrators of La Libertad.
Preliminary reports indicate that Urtecho was not supposed to be in the vehicle, but Lara reportedly offered to take her home.
However, the investigations by the police will determine the exact role played by each of the four victims who were accompanying Lara Tantaquilla.
He is now in the hands of the Los Pulpos and La Jauria criminal organizations, according to La Libertad Region's Police chief, Police General Ricardo Espinoza.
The incident
In the early hours of Sunday, August 30, criminals wearing uniforms, vests, and helmets from the Special Group Against Organized Crime (Grecco), and armed with long-range weapons, intercepted a Raptor pickup truck at the intersection of Husares de Junin Avenue and Isabel de Bobadilla.
Four men got out of the purported police vehicle and asked the occupants for their documents.
After confirming that the target was in the vehicle, they ordered Lara Quintanilla to get out. But when his security personnel refused, the criminals chose to kill them instead.
Afterwards, they removed the allegedly injured Lara Quintanilla from the vehicle and took him away in an unknown direction.
Hours later, it was learned that the criminals used silencers to kill the victims, whose families are demanding justice.
Defense Minister Rafael Belaunde arrived in Trujillo after 11:30 p.m. to lead joint operations by the Peruvian National Police and the Peruvian Army against organized crime.
