Peruvian Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez on Thursday affirmed that the recently-sworn-in Ministerial Cabinet is made up of capable women and men committed to the country.

In remarks to RPP radio and TV station, Bermudez stated that since the moment she was summoned by President Francisco Sagasti, she proposed to create a gender-balanced Cabinet capable of facing this challenge.

"They are not only highly capable, but also committed people," she said.

Bermudez affirmed that some members of her ministerial team have left important positions and personal projects to assume their posts during this short period of transition.

Likewise, the high-ranking official expressed her intention to remain together to guarantee a responsible and orderly transfer of power, as well as to set the initial directions for the consolidation of an authentic Republic.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief highlighted that gender equality will have been achieved when the fact that a woman has assumed charge of a ministry or court has ceased to be news.

"As long as this makes news, things are not going so well," said the government official, noting that Peruvian women are ready to take on the challenges.
