Peru: New Ministerial Cabinet sworn in

The new President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti Hochhausler on Wednesday evening administered the oath of office to members of his Cabinet.

The new ministers sworn in today are:

1. Violeta Bermudez Valdivia (Prime Minister)

2. Esther Elizabeth Astete Rodriguez (Foreign Affairs)

3. Nuria del Rocio Esparch Fernandez (Defense)

4. Waldo Epifanio Mendoza Bellido (Economy and Finance)

5. Ismael Ruben Vargas Cespedes (Interior)

6. Eduardo Ernesto Vega Luna (Justice and Human Rights)

7. Ricardo David Cuenca Pareja (Education)

8. Pilar Elena Mazzetti Soler (Health)

9. Federico Bernardo Tenorio Calderon (Agriculture and Irrigation)

10. Javier Eduardo Palacios Gallegos (Labor and Job Promotion)

11. Jose Luis Chicoma Lucar (Production)

12. Claudia Eugenia Cornejo Mohme (Foreign Trade and Tourism)

13. Eduardo Martin Gonzalez Chavez (Transport and Communications)

14. Silvia Rosario Loli Espinoza (Women and Vulnerable Populations) 

15. Gabriel Quijandria Acosta (Environment)

16. Alejandro Arturo Neyra Sanchez (Culture)

17. Silvana Eugenia Vargas Winstanley (Development and Social Inclusion)

18. Solangel N. Fernandez Huanqui (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation)

It must be noted that Minister Nuria del Rocio Esparch Fernandez has become the first woman to lead the Defense sector.


On this occasion, Ministers Federico Tenorio Calderon (Agriculture and Irrigation) and Jose Luis Chicoma Lucar (Production) were both sworn in virtually.

The main ceremony was held at the Government Palace in Lima.



In remarks to the press, President Sagasti indicated that he would 
choose a plural, efficient, and honest Cabinet.
