Health Minister Oscar Ugarte on Saturday announced that the process of immunization against COVID-19 involving citizens aged above 40 has been moved forward to July 24.

"Next Saturday, we will start to vaccinate people aged 40 and above," he said from Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district while attending the second Vaccinathon.

15 Delta variant cases

"During recent days, we have detected other cases of the Delta variant in Arequipa and eight in Lima. Right now, we have detected three more cases (in the capital city)," the high-ranking official told reporters.

"Thus, the amount of cases increases to 15 at the national level," he indicated.

More than 7 million vaccines in August

Furthermore, Minister Ugarte indicated that over 7 million doses will arrive in August, noting that these are enough to immunize those who are on the schedule, and that the vaccination process for people aged 30 could even start.

Lastly, he said that vaccination centers —starting July 19— will expand their operating hours from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (local time).
