Peru: Health Min urges people to get fully vaccinated

Health Minister Oscar Ugarte on Saturday affirmed that the Government's main concern in managing the COVID-19 pandemic is the risk of a third wave, because the Delta variant is already circulating in Peru.

Therefore, he emphasized, it is extremely important to vaccinate more citizens with two doses.

"It has already been proven abroad that a single dose protects us by 30% against this variant; whereas, with two doses applied, our protection exceeds 80%," the government official wrote on Twitter.

"Therefore, we call on people, who have been vaccinated with one dose and must get a second dose, to go receive it at the corresponding vaccination center," he pointed out.

Within this framework, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez was administered the second jab in Lima's Miraflores district today.

"Following the schedule, I have received the second vaccine dose to be fully protected against COVID-19. I share this experience with confidence and hope in the vaccination process," she wrote on Twitter.
