The vaccination against COVID-19 of people aged 45 and 46 began in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region on Saturday, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has confirmed.

The event is held within the framework of the Vaccinathon, which started this morning at 07:00 a.m. (local time) and ends on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at 22 vaccination centers set up in Lima and Callao.

This 36-hour-long Vaccinathon intends to accelerate the process of immunization against COVID-19 among citizens aged 45 to 49 and complete administering the necessary doses for those aged above 50 who —for some reason— have not yet received the jab.

During this second Vaccinathon, the COVID-19 vaccine will also be administered to senior citizens, pregnant women, people with comorbidities, as well as those with rare and orphan diseases.

The Cabinet member recently reported that —until July 2021— Peru relies on 19.6 million doses, which will contribute to completing the immunization of the population aged 40-49, and continue with the following age groups.

Vaccination schedule

Regarding the immunization process, the minister reminded citizens that the vaccination of people between 40 and 49 years of age should continue this month thru September, followed by those aged between 30 and 39 (August-October), 20 to 29 (September-November), and 12 to 19 (October-December).
