A new batch of 497,250 Pfizer vaccine doses against COVID-19 arrived in Lima on Thursday evening, as part of the direct purchase made by the Peruvian Government.

"Today, a new batch of 497,250 Pfizer vaccines arrived, which will serve to expand and improve our service capacity to immunize more compatriots, not only in Lima and Callao, but also nationwide," the high-ranking official expressed.

The doses were transferred from Jorge Chavez International Airport to the warehouses of the National Center for Supply of Strategic Resources in Health (Cenares) and will later be distributed to different regions of the country.

The Cabinet member said the regions —which have already complied with vaccinating people aged 60 and above— are allowed to start to immunize their populations over 50 years of age, as well as members of native communities and teachers based in rural areas.

Likewise, Ugarte affirmed that President Francisco Sagasti's administration will leave 50 million doses for the next government.

Those doses will arrive in the second half of the year,
with the aim of continuing to immunize the population against COVID-19.
