The vaccination against COVID-19 of people aged 40 and above began in Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao region on Saturday, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has confirmed.

The event is held within the framework of the third Vaccinathon, which started this morning at 07:00 a.m. (local time) and ends on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at 22 vaccination centers in Lima and Callao.

This 36-hour-long event intends to accelerate the process of immunization against COVID-19 and complete administering the necessary doses for those aged above 40 who —for some reason— have not yet received the jab.

During this third Vaccinathon, the COVID-19 vaccine will also be administered to senior citizens, pregnant women, people with comorbidities, teenagers with Down syndrome, as well as citizens with rare and orphan diseases.

This week's goal means vaccinating at least 250,000 citizens.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) clarified that other vaccination centers (more than 50 venues) in Metropolitan Lima and Callao continue serving people from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven days a week.

Secured COVID-19 vaccines

Foreign Affairs Minister Allan Wagner recently reported that Peru has secured that more than 65 million doses, adding that 10 million Sputnik V two-component vaccines (20 million doses) have been contracted so far leading to a total of 85 million doses.

Vaccination schedule

The vaccination of people between 40 and 49 years of age should continue this month thru September, followed by those aged between 30 and 39 (August-October), 20 to 29 (September-November), and 12 to 19 (October-December).
