The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti has affirmed that the vaccines to immunize Peruvians against coronavirus, which were acquired from various laboratories around the world, are secured until January of next year.

"Thus, we already have around 100 million secured doses," he stressed.

The Head of State recalled that there had been some comments claiming there would be no vaccines for August and September 2021. However, that was duly ruled out.

"There are always small imbalances; we take these issues into account in the vaccination planning process so that there are no bumps," he remarked.

Concerning the criticism against the vaccine from China's Sinopharm laboratory, the top official emphasized that it is absurd to think, as well as irresponsible and criminal, to say that "it is distilled water."

Regarding the investigation launched against the people who were engaged in ICU beds trafficking, the statesman said it was a "criminal act," adding that "the full weight of the law" must fall on those involved in such wrongdoings.

Furthermore, the Peruvian leader assured that those actions committed by a group of people at Lima-based Almenara Hospital "are absolutely inhumane," especially in times of health emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this sense, the President believes that the best way to avoid speculation is to provide more services by increasing the number of ICU beds and multiplying the number of oxygen plants sevenfold.

As is known, Mr. Sagasti —who took office in November 2020 to lead the Transition and Emergency Government— is set to leave office on July 28, 2021.
