Peru reappoints Central Bank Governor

Peru’s Central Reserve Bank (BCR) Governor Julio Emilio Velarde Flores has been appointed to a third five-year term, the Presidency of Council of Ministers (PCM) announced on Wednesday.

According to a supreme resolution published in the official newspaper El Peruano, Velarde’s reappointment will be reported to the Congress, pursuant to the mandate of Article 86 of the Peruvian Constitution. 

According to such ordinance, the Executive Power is granted the power to appoint four members of the BCR board, including the Governor.

On the other hand, Javier Alfredo Escobal D’Angelo, Luis Miguel Palomino Bonilla and Gustavo Adolfo Yamada Fukusaki were named BCR board members, according to another resolution.

Likewise, the Executive announced the termination of duties of Luis Alberto Arias Minaya, Waldo Epifanio Mendoza Bellido and Carlos Augusto Oliva Neyra, to whom the State thanks for the services rendered to the nation.

Resolutions were signed by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Prime Minister Fernando Zavala and Economy and Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne Vetter.
