The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, on Sunday cast his vote at Pedro Labarthe Durand School in Chiclayo province, northern Lambayeque region.

The Head of State fulfilled his civic duty at polling table 032780 of the aforementioned educational institution.

Upon leaving the facilities, he told reporters that "Peru needs public works and more public works, not fights," adding that whoever loses the election must respect the results.

"I hope that, from this moment on, I can hand over the presidential sash in a peaceful and orderly manner, and that the new administration will take office and carry out projects for the country," Balcazar expressed.

The President indicated that he is ready to work promptly with whoever wins the election.

He added that it is necessary for that person to receive everyone's support to prevent the country from becoming divided.

Election process

The President underscored that the presence of international observers and poll watchers from both political parties guarantees a proper electoral process this Sunday.

Likewise, the Head of State said all Peruvians trust the electoral authorities to fulfill their duties.

The top official noted that the Armed Forces and the Peruvian National Police have "fulfilled their task so far nationwide by supporting the setup of polling tables across the country."

Pope Leo XIV's visit

At another point, the President said Pope Leo XIV's visit to Peru would take place starting on November 10.

The Head of State also reported that the Council of Ministers approved the allocation of S/170 million (US$49 million) for infrastructure projects in Lambayeque ahead of the Supreme Pontiff’s arrival.

"For example, the road to Incahuasi, which Pope Leo XIV used to travel on horseback, will now be built with the support from the Army; we hope that road will already be completed by the time the Pope arrives, because it has never been built," he indicated.
