Peru President made presidential plane available to Loreto for aid purposes

15:04 | Lima, May. 15.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Friday stated that he made the presidential plane available to Loreto —one of the regions hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru— for the transfer of the most seriously infected citizens and the sending of aid.

"I have made the presidential plane 100% available to Loreto in order to bring the most seriously ill people to Lima, those who can receive better care in Lima; also in order to bring material, medical personnel, and all kinds of support to (the city of) Iquitos," he asserted.

The Head of State said that if he needs to visit any other region, he will use another aircraft from the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) and stressed that the presidential plane is 100% available to Loreto region.

Likewise, the top official highlighted that a medical oxygen production plant was also moved to the rainforest region and specified that at least 30 flights have departed for Iquitos over the recent week to meet the great demand for health services.

Ministerial trips

In this sense, he noted that ministers travel for two reasons: to bring the support that the regions require, as well as to improve and optimize coordination among the various levels of government (national, regional, and local ones).

"Articulation is important, but if there isn't a sum of efforts among the different levels of government, the objective cannot be achieved. We must join efforts and put aside political or personal differences," he stressed.
