Peru President: Fujimori opposition party recognizes validity of Congress dissolution

12:06 | Cajamarca (Cajamarca region), Oct. 22.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed Keiko Fujimori's Fuerza Popular opposition party recognized the validity of the constitutional dissolution of Congress, as they have decided to participate in the parliamentary elections scheduled for January 26, 2020.

"If they legally questioned it, they would not participate (in the coming elections), but if they are participating, then they are recognizing the validity of the decision we made on September 30," the Head of State expressed.

In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.

"We respect the separation of powers and we hope, as always, that they carry it out with all the corresponding legal support. As Executive Branch, our role is to implement, build, and develop. The Public Ministry and the Judiciary have their own role, and we respect that competency," he added.

Likewise, the statesman pointed out the Executive Branch is always willing to collaborate regarding any questioning or investigation on any of its members.

The President also requested citizens to vote consciously and responsibly in the parliamentary elections by electing the candidates who are truly committed to their proposals.

Remarks were made before the closing ceremony of the First Digital GORE in the Northern Andean city of Cajamarca.

Earlier, he inaugurated the Tingo Bridge, the main access road to Cajamarca.
