Peru President supports Public Ministry, Judiciary actions

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday reaffirmed his support for the actions undertaken by the Public Ministry and the Judiciary, concerning the investigations on offenses committed in Peru.

"It is necessary to respect and support the Public Ministry and Judiciary, which work independently within their competences. We respect the State's institutions (…)," the Head of State expressed when asked about the raid on the apartment of former APRA Congresswoman and current Permanent Commission member Luciana Leon.

As is known, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.

Earlier, Prosecutor's Office officials raided the Miraflores district property of Luciana Leon —a current Permanent Commission member representing the APRA party— within the framework of the investigation on the criminal organization "Los Intocables Ediles" (The Town Council's Untouchables), related to corruption offenses by local authorities in Lima's La Victoria district.

The raid also included the apartments of Luciana's brother Romulo Leon and her advisor Betsy Matos.

Bolivia and Chile

On the other hand, the top official indicated that he is confident the domestic problems Chile and Bolivia currently face will find solutions, which will benefit their peoples.

"We must focus on our own problems and make the utmost effort to prevent these problems from arising in the future," he added.

End of presidential term

Finally, the statesman reaffirmed his term in office will end on July 28, 2021.

Remarks were made after the closing ceremony of the First Digital GORE in the Northern Andean city of Cajamarca.
