Peru President expresses concern regarding political reform approval at Congress
14:54
| Lima, Jul. 16.
Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday expressed his concerns regarding the progress in the approval of the political reform, as Congress has only passed one bill, even though
the extended legislative term will end soon, on July 25.
In this sense, the Head of State recalled the
six political reform bills
were submitted by the Executive Branch within the framework of a
confidence motion
that
was approved by Parliament on June 5
.
"More than one month has passed. Next week, the term extended by Congress itself comes to an end, (thus,) a little more than a week is left, and out of the
six bills
, one has been approved. That worries us," the top official said in this sense.
However, the statesman indicated he trusts Congress and
the vote of confidence it granted to the cabinet last June
.
Likewise, he pointed out that the confidence granted to the
six political reform bills not only creates expectations within the Executive Branch, but also across the entire country
.
"
I think it will be done
," President Vizcarra concluded.
As is known,
President Vizcarra's administration intends to implement reforms to enhance the political-judicial system
. Plus, it
launched a crusade against corruption
.
