Peru President: I am optimistic reforms will have been approved by July 25

10:43 | Lima, Jun. 17.

President Martin Vizcarra on Monday affirmed he is optimistic the six political reform bills —which received a confidence vote— will have been approved by July 25, the date on which the extension on Congress' legislative term will end.

In this sense, the Head of State indicated he is sure that Parliament will be up to the trust it has granted, and that it will be carried out in the expected period of time, adding this request does not mean they are being forced to do so.

Likewise, he welcomed Congress Chairman Daniel Salaverry's decision to extend the legislative term.

The statesman went on to add that —when he took office in March 2018— his administration affirmed it would undertake efforts based on five political axes. The first one is integrity and the fight against corruption, while the second is institutional strengthening for governance.

"We must be coherent, and the Executive Branch works on the frontal fight against corruption. Thus, we hope the other State Branches will remain on this path," President Vizcarra told Exitosa Radio.

For that reason, the Head of State asked for the population's support, as it will help with the supervision on the actions of all State levels —national, regional, and local.
